At-A-Glance Special Education Profiles Released

May 21, 2020/in District Site News /by rthornburg

The Oregon Department of Education has released the At-A-Glance Special Education Profiles.

May 21, 2020

Media Contact: Marc Siegel

At-A-Glance Special Education Profiles Released

(Salem, Ore.) – At-A-Glance Special Education Profiles (previously Special Education Report Cards) showing special education data for Oregon school districts and Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education programs are now available on the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) website. The profiles are a federally mandated compilation of results from the 2018-2019 school year as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.*

The data reflect trends such as an increasing graduation rate and decreasing dropout rate. The profiles also show Oregon’s strength compared to national figures when it comes to identifying children with special needs at a very young age and providing them with appropriate and timely services.

The At-A-Glance Special Education Profiles have been redesigned to align with the At-A-Glance School and District Profiles and include graphics showing the special education figures for each district and program compared to state specified targets in 10 categories:

  • Graduation rate – both 4-year and 5-year cohort
  • Dropout rate
  • Timelines for referrals and eligibility determination
  • Child find for infants, toddlers, and children with disabilities
  • Least Restrictive Environment – students served as much as possible with non-disabled peers
  • Academic Participation
  • Post-secondary outcomes when students with disabilities exit special education
  • Disproportionality related to over- or under-representation in special education and over- or under-representation within specific disability category
  • Parent survey results
  • Child outcomes for infants, toddlers, and preschool children receiving special education services

More information can be found on the At-A-Glance Special Education Profiles webpage.

*Note: All of the data is for the 2018-19 school year with the exception of Graduation Rates, Dropout Rates and Suspension/Expulsion which are from 2017-18.

Seal of Bi-literacy Awarded to Five Seniors

May 13, 2020/in District Site News, Pendleton High News /by rthornburg

Seal of Biliteracy

The state of Oregon developed avenues for students to work towards and obtain a seal of bi-literacy on their high school diploma for demonstrating the ability to read, write, listen, and speak in more than one language. Pendleton School District connected Taffy Carlisle from the Oregon Department of Education to the CTUIR Language Department to develop a pathway for students learning Indigenous languages at Nixya’awii and Pendleton High School to demonstrate proficiency and obtain this high honor. CTUIR Language Department has been working tirelessly to preserve languages lost due to colonization and assimilation efforts of the past. Part of this work has been a pre-school language immersion program, Kindergarten Heritage Language program, addition of first grade Heritage Language program, and High School Language programs.

Five graduating seniors have earned the high honor of the seal of bi-literacy for the first time.
Seth Scott of PHS, Nez Perce language
Christina Kaltsukis, Susie Patrick, Lily Picard, and Joseph Simon of  NCS, Umatilla language

Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony

May 5, 2020/in District Site News, Pendleton High News /by rthornburg

Pendleton High School will be conducting its graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 30th.  Due to the pandemic impacts and social restrictions that are currently in place, this year’s ceremony will be different from year’s past, in particular, we will be utilizing a “drive-thru” strategy.  There is a limit of one vehicle per graduate to the presentation of diplomas that will take place at the Round-Up Grounds.  Despite these historic times, we are excited to be able to honor our graduating seniors in the Class of 2020.

Although final details are still being determined, graduates and families should expect to receive instructions for the 30th within the next 5-7 days.  Please contact the school directly with any questions at 541.966.3804.
