Superintendent Message – March 4, 2022

Effective March 14th, the Pendleton School District will be lifting the face mask requirement for students while at school and while riding a school bus. Face masks will be optional for students and will be left up to the individual student and their parents to decide whether or not to wear a face covering while at school.   This change is in line with recent updates by the CDC, the Oregon Health Authority, and the Oregon Department of Education.  We will be updating our Ready Schools Safe Learners plan on our website to reflect this change.

With this change, our staff will be working with all students to be respectful of their choices whether to continue to wear a face covering or not.  I would also like to thank the hundreds of parents that participated in our recent survey.  Your responses contributed to our decision.

Although the Coronavirus rates are declining, it is still present in our community.  Below are some of the mitigation strategies that we will continue to employ in our schools until further notice and most likely for the remainder of the current school year.

Rules that Apply to All Students and Staff:

  1. If you have Covid, you need to isolate for five days from the onset of symptoms and be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school/work.  The District Coordinator will work with families and staff on the return date.
  2. If you have Covid “primary symptoms” (Read Descriptions), isolate and consult your primary medical provider; remain isolated if directed or until symptoms are subsided for 24 hours.
  3. If you are a “contact,” monitor your health daily, and
    1. If you display “primary Covid symptoms,” seek medical attention, and contact your child’s school for return directions, OR
    2. If you do not display “primary Covid symptoms,” your child may continue to come to school.
  4. If you have “non-primary symptoms” (Read Descriptions), isolate until you are symptom-free for 24 hours.

The easiest way to think of this section is, if you are sick, please stay home until you are feeling better!

General Guidelines:

  1. Wash hands frequently,
  2. Practice proper respiratory etiquette,
  3. Maintain to the extent possible 3’ of distance in classrooms settings,
  4. Seating charts will be maintained for all classroom and group settings, including buses,
  5. All sites will continue to clean and sanitize per OHSA standards,
  6. All sites will continue to replace HVAC filters on a regular schedule, and
  7. All staff will remind, reinforce, and reteach appropriate behaviors to students on a regular basis.

Once again, I would like to thank all of our families and students for working collaboratively with us throughout the pandemic.  Your cooperation has contributed significantly to minimizing the impact of the virus on our school operations.

Respectfully,
Chris Fritsch

Respetuosamente,
Chris Fritsch
