Superintendent Message, April 8, 2020 @ 3:30 pm

Today at 1 pm, Governor Kate Brown announced that public schools in Oregon would be closed to students for the remainder of the school year.  At the same time, the Pathways to Graduation was released today for the Class of 2020 only.

Effective Monday, April 13th, the Pendleton School District has been directed to commence with the Distance Learning for All Plan.  The Distance Learning for All plan is for students’ grades K-11 and any seniors who are not currently on track to graduate.

Teachers have been reaching out to students and families for the last several days to reconnect with you in preparation for the 13th.   I am attempting to provide you with critical information in this message.  A comprehensive guide from the Oregon Department of Education that explains the rationale for these decisions will be forthcoming.

Seniors:  Class of 2020

  1. Your school year will officially end on May 27th as scheduled.
  2. Seniors who were on-track to graduate when schools closed as of March 13th have met the graduation requirements.  No further work will be required in order for you to receive a diploma.
  3. Seniors who were not on-track to graduate when schools closed as of March 13th, will continue to work towards earning the credits needed to earn your diploma.
  4. All seniors will receive written notification within the next 7-10 business days of your graduation status.  If you are unsure of your status, you should continue with our Distance Learning for All plan.  Appropriate information and links are on our district and PHS webpages.
  5. Seniors in Dual Credit classes will need to complete the courses online if they want the college credit.

Graduation:  Class of 2020:

1.  Unfortunately, at this time, it is unknown if or when a graduation ceremony will take place.

2.  The district intends to work with the senior class to develop an alternative plan if need be to honor the accomplishments of the Class of 2020.

Grades 9, 10 & 11:  Classes of 2021, 2022 & 2023

  1. Your school year will officially end on June 4th as scheduled unless the Governor, State Board of Education, or the Oregon Department of Education directs us otherwise.
  2. All students’ grades 9-11 are to continue engaging in their education through our Distance Learning for All plan.  Appropriate information and links are on our district and PHS webpages.
  3. You should expect to be contacted by your teachers by phone or email at least twice a week.
  4. Further guidance from the Oregon Department of Education is expected to be released in the coming days.

Grades K-8:

  1. Your school year will officially end on June 4th as scheduled unless the Governor, State Board of Education, or the Oregon Department of Education directs us otherwise.
  2. All students in grades K-8 will continue to be engaged through our Distance Learning for All plan.  Appropriate links are on our district and school webpages.
  3. Further guidance from the Oregon Department of Education will be communicated as it is released.

Specific questions about your child’s educational plan should first be directed to the school or your child’s teacher.  Contact information is provided on our district and school webpages.

I ask for your continued patience as we work through these unchartered times.
