Secondary Hybrid to Begin Monday, March 29, 2021

I am proud to announce that students in grades 6-12 will be returning to school utilizing a hybrid model starting Monday, March 29th.  For those not familiar with this term, hybrid is defined as a combination of on-site instruction and remote learning.  The main features of the secondary hybrid model are:

  • Students will attend every day on-site, either during a morning or afternoon session,
  • Students will attend four periods each day,
  • The daily class schedule will maintain Green & Gold days,
  • Students will receive ½ their daily instruction on-site and ½ remotely, and
  • Students will receive “live” in-person instruction every day.

The rationale for choosing this model includes:

  • Consistent with the current schedule of classes,
  • Aligned to the K-5 model,
  • Provides 40 minutes per class of live instruction when on-site, which can be augmented with 45-50 minutes per class per day of independent remote learning or asynchronous strategy that would combine the morning and afternoon instructional time for 80 minutes of live instruction every other day,
  • Transportation services can support this model,
  • All students will have daily access to meals,
  • Daily student/teacher contact best supports social emotional well-being,
  • Provides students and families with a consistent daily schedule,
  • Allows teachers the flexibility to combine synchronous and asynchronous instruction, and
  • A majority of parents surveyed preferred this model.

Sunridge and Pendleton High School expect to begin communicating with families tomorrow, Wednesday, March 10th.

In addition, each building is planning orientation activities for all 6th and 9th grade students next week.  6th and 9th grade students and their parents will receive more information on the specific details for the orientation within the next few days as well.

Our students’ return to school can be credited to the continued decline in the number of COVID cases in our community, along with our ability to demonstrate that practicing the universal precautions within our buildings does prevent the spread of the virus.  We take our student’s and staff’s safety seriously and expect everyone to continue to practice all precautions while your children are in our charge.

Although there are still many details to be determined, each school will begin communicating key information in the coming days.  Please review all information carefully.  School staff will be available to answer questions as information is released.

Thank you again for your partnership as we return our students back into our schools.

Respectfully,
Chris Fritsch

Respetuosamente,
Chris Fritsch
