Agriculture Pathway
Pendleton High School’s Agriculture Department is a diverse and exciting program of study in Career and Technical Education. Whether a student is interested in production agriculture (farming and ranching), agricultural business, agricultural mechanics, or agricultural leadership, the program truly offers something for everyone. With numerous opportunities for hands-on learning through field trips, lab-based experiments, or even in the school’s land lab and greenhouse, students go way beyond theory and into the real world of agriculture. Combining classroom and laboratory activities with Supervised Agricultural Experiences and student leadership opportunities through the FFA, Pendleton High School’s agriculture program is excitement at its best!

None | Agriculture 1 The major purpose of agriculture 1 class is to introduce students to the world of agriculture, the pathways they may pursue, and the science, mathematics, reading and writing components they will use throughout subsequent courses in the agriculture department. Woven throughout the course are activities to develop and improve employability skills of students through practical applications. Students will explore career and post-secondary opportunities in each area of the course. |

Ag I | Agriculture 2 The agriculture 2 class is an extension of the agriculture 1 class. In this class students will explore the main areas of agriculture, but in more depth. They will get the opportunity to work on more advanced topics pertaining to agriculture and the outside world. More classroom time will be spent on students exploring various agri-science projects and hands-on activities. Students will guide themselves through a series of student lead activities and explore the world of agriculture through their own eyes. We will not only focus on local agriculture issues, but those within our country and the world. |

Ag I and Ag II | Agriculture 3 The agriculture 3 class is an advanced class within the agriculture curriculum. This class will focus more on the “science” of agriculture. They will get the opportunity to work more on advanced topics pertaining to agriculture and the outside world. More classroom time will be spent on students exploring various agri-science projects and hands-on activities. Students will guide themselves through a series of student lead activities and explore the world of agriculture through their own eyes. We will not only focus on local agriculture issues, but those within our country and the world. Students will get the extended applications experience they will need for graduation during this class. |

Ag I and Ag II | Animal Science The Principles of Agricultural Science–Animal course is intended to serve as a foundation course within the CASE sequence. This course is structured to enable all students to work in teams, exploring hands-on projects and activities to learn the characteristics of animal science and work on major projects and problems similar to those that animal science specialists face in their respective careers. |

Ag I and Ag II | Intro to Veterinary Science This course will study animal health, nutrition, reproduction, animal surgery, genetics, and basic biotechnology. Students will be able to demonstrate how to determine illnesses in animals, proper feeding regimens and current breeding techniques. Students will demonstrate professional ethics, decision-making, communication, problem-solving skills, and technical competency with small and large animals in the areas of anatomy and physiology, clinical procedures, identification, health and safety, and medical terminology. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Biology or teacher recommendation. Note this course is listed in the Science section of the PHS Curriculum Guide. |

Ag I and Ag II | Plant Science The Plant course is intended to serve as a foundation course within the CASE sequence. The course is structured to enable all students to work in teams, exploring hands-on projects and acticities, to learn the characteristics of plant science and work on major projects and problems similar to those that plant science specialists, such as horticulturalists, agronomists, greenhouse and nursery managers and producers, and plant research specialists face in their respective careers. |
