Visual & Media Arts POS

The Pendleton High School Visual and Media Arts program of study gives students practical experience and knowledge about chosen professions in the media and arts industries. Students learn to create art to communicate ideas, thoughts or feelings. They use a variety of methods and an assortment of materials,including paints, pastels, pencils, pen and ink, plaster, clay, photography and computers. This career pathway requires the development of knowledge in both visual arts concepts as well as new and emerging digital processes. Weather a student is interested in becoming a fine artist an illustrator or a graphic designer they will learn academic and technical skills to be successful in a broad range of occupations and professions. Classes are hands on, augmented with guest speakers and field trips.

Art I
This course will provide students with the opportunity to develop skills in drawing and painting mediums. The course will follow a general art history timeline starting with Prehistoric art and ending with Neoclassical art.

Art I prerequisite Art II
This course will provide students with the opportunity to develop skills in drawing and painting mediums. The course will follow a general art history timeline starting with Academic Art and ending with Contemporary Art.
0.05 Advanced
Photo I
This class focuses on image manipulation using digital cameras and Adobe Photoshop. Students will work with the manual and automatic modes on digital cameras to produce specific photographic effect. Photoshop will be used to organize and refine images.
0.05 Introductory
Photo I prerequisite Photo II
This course is designed to refine student’s photography skills through creative image manipulation using digital cameras, as well as in Adobe Photoshop. Students will also learn traditional photo processing in the dark room and printing techniques.

Graphic Arts I
In this class, students will combine art and technology to communicate ideas and make compositions that are aesthetically effective. Students will work from drawn, photographed and computer-generated images. They will learn to use digital editing software and tools to design, create, and organize images and typography. Students will also be challenged to combine graphic design skills with business knowledge.

Graphic Arts I prerequisite Graphic Arts II
This course is designed for students to build and refine software editing skills from Graphics I. They will use tools and key features of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
